While the weather is bad enough to make even ducks miss dry land, we down right refuse to let it dampen our fun loving bingo spirit! It's summer and that means one thing – it's barbeque season…come rain or shine!
So that's why Littlewoods Bingo has been slaving over a hot set of coals to bring our players some nifty new recipes to make your BBQ go with a bang. And worse case scenario you can always shove 'em in the oven!
The Blumin' Good Bingo Burger
We know a lot of our bingo players are concerned about the amount of meat they get in their burgers and sausages. Well one way to assure you get top quality on your Barbie is to make them yourself…and we've got a great idea to add a bit more wow factor.
Have you seen those mouth watering M&S food advert – god they're good! But have you seen the one with the burger that when you take a bite into it, gorgonzola oozes out? Well, have we got a brilliant bingo tip for you!
Make your burgers as usual by simply combining a diced onion with minced beef and a teaspoon of salt. Mould your patties into typical burger shapes then cut each of them in half. Stick in a slice of your favourite cheese and reshape the burger so the cheese is completely surrounded by the mince and barbeque as normal. When your bingo buddies tuck in, they'll get an extra special treat as the cheese will have melted perfectly.
Keep on Drummin'
You want to play the best bingo, you go to Littlewoods; you want to have the best Barbie, you get out the chicken drumsticks. In our opinion, no barbeque is complete without chicken drumsticks.
Now there's so much you can do to chicken. From simply sprinkling them with a crumbled stock cube to making your own honey and mustard marinade, the possibilities are endless. But the Littlewoods Bingo crème de la crème of chicken drumsticks is…peri-peri!
Now if you're pressed for time, there are plenty of sauces that come straight out of the bottle. However, if you've got a bit of prep time on your hands, it's always nice to make your own.
Just combine oil, fresh lime juice, a chopped fresh red chilli (alternatively you use cayenne pepper or dried chilli flakes), crushed garlic and a sprinkle of salt and pepper to season. Stick your drumsticks in the marinade and cover for a couple of hours in the fridge (or ideally overnight if you like it really spicy!). Wash down with a perfectly chilled ice-cold beer.
Very Veggie and a Side of Salad
The word Barbeque usually leaves the vegetarians of this world expecting salad and good old veggie kebabs. Well wow your veggie friends and even make your carnivore chums jealous with this, Portabella Mushroom Burgers with a Tequila Glaze - Littlewoods Bingo's vegetarian delight.
Whisk together ½ cup of tequila, 60g margarine, 3 tbsp of olive oil, ¼ lime juice and 4 crushed garlic cloves and leave for 10-15 minutes. Get your portabella mushrooms and remove the stems. Baste them with the marinade and then stick on the Barbie for 3-4 minutes. Turn, baste again and cook for a further 2 minutes. Top with another slug of the tequila mix before serving!
Vital bingo tip: Remember to cook any veggie foods first before you put meat on the grill.
Aside from your typical lettuce leaves, cucumber and carrots representing your salad endeavours, slice up several beef tomatoes and soak in olive oil, balsamic vinegar and thinly sliced garlic for a couple of hours for a fantastically fresh, sweet salad alternative for you healthy eating bingo players. They also go perfectly on top of fresh French or garlic bread – kind of like a bruschetta.
Happy bingo barbequing!
