Get Fit: Gym Free!

Now we all know that New Year resolutions don’t tend to last that long, so if your dedication to getting fit is waning a bit and that gym pass hasn’t left your bag in months, then it might be time to reconsider your exercise routine! Luckily, you don’t need a gym membership to get fit – so if the most exercise you get is lifting your bingo dauber then take a look at our guide to gym-free exercises!

Walking

Walking is something we all do, but it’s a seriously underrated exercise. Taking a brisk, 30 minute walk can work wonders to improve muscle tone and get the cardiovascular system working, not to mention burning off some calories. Take a walk with the dog, a friend or even the kids and get moving!

Cycling

Have you got a bicycle stashed in the shed that you rarely use? Well now’s the time to dust off the spiders and head out for an evening cycle. It’s a low impact exercise, so easy on your joints, but still works your lower body. So instead of driving to the shops or to visit a friend, why not jump on the bike instead? Don’t forget the helmet though and make sure the seat and handlebars are adjusted for your body.

Fitness DVDs

If leaving your home to do exercise sounds like something you’re unlikely to do then you’ll be pleased to hear you can still get in fit in your own home. Banish thoughts of Mr. Motivator and invest in a fitness DVD – there’s a whole host of them, including celebrity ones that will let you have an aerobic workout in your living room. Yoga, pilates, dancing and club mixes are just some of the things you can choose from.

Exercise Games & Dancing
The rise of the Wii Fit should indicate just how popular getting fit with games can be. The Wii Fit is a brilliant mix of games, brainpower and fun and will let you get involved in the likes of jogging, boxing, yoga and much more – you can keep track of your progress and your Wii trainer will be there to encourage you! Or if you fancy something a little more fun, why not try one of the many dance games out there and dance yourself it? Games like Just Dance and Dance Dance Revolution let you get your groove on and you can even have dance-off competitions with your family.

So spring into Summer with a brand new exercise workout and when it all gets too much, you can always take a 10 minute break for a few cheeky games of bingo!
