Each year we forget the trouble that the cold winter spell can cause our skin. With the snow and ice abound at the moment, your skincare routine is unlikely to be top of your list, but if you find yourself with sore chapped lips and sallow skin then follow our top tips and we’ll have you looking like an Ice Queen in no time.
The main problem that we experience during the winter is dry skin. This can be caused by chilly weather air conditioning at work or roasting heaters. But fear not bingo fans, there are ways to combat the effects of dry skin and leave your skin in tip-top condition.
Firstly, there is a difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin. Dry skin is visibly dry and the skin often feels tight with tight pores, wrinkles and poor skin tone. It’s often genetic but can also be caused by using incorrect products or age.
Dehydrated skin on the other hand is often flaky and tight on the surface, along with fine lines and blackheads. The causes of dehydrated skin are most commonly due to lack of moisture, using the wrong products for your skin, diet and environment.
Cleansers and moisturisers are key in restoring your skins previous glow. Start off with cleansers - Using a gentle cleanser will ensure that your skin stays calm. Protecting against cold snaps means nourishing your vulnerable skin in order to defend it against the weather.
For the daytime, use a good quality, extra rich moisturiser to help restore damaged and dehydrated skin, making it look more youthful and smoother. This goes for all of your body, not just your face! At night smooth on a dedicated night time moisturiser to give your face some extra care and keep the central heating from leaching the moisture out of your skin.
Sounds simple, but a simple cleansing and moisturising routine can work wonders for skin affected by the harsh winter weather.
Finish off with a lip balm rich in shea or cocoa butter and you will be back to your normal glowing self in no time.
