For the culture vultures amongst you, an art gallery might be your haven from the crazy outside world! For our bingo buddies who haven’t ever had time for the Mona Lisa, Statue of David or Andy Warhol’s soup can, our round up of some of the most interesting ‘art galleries’ and ‘exhibitions’ around the UK might just be your cup of tea.
Banksy – Bristol, London, er...wherever!
Bansky is one man who definitely divides opinions. Some call him a spray-can wielding graffiti vandal, others think he is a modern art genius. If sales of his recent works are anything to go by, then perhaps Banksy - whose true identity has never been revealed, has caught the British public’s imagination more than any other artist in recent times.
If you live in London or Bristol then chances are you have seen Banksy’s work. He doesn’t display in exhibitions or shows, rather, he paints giant murals on the sides of buildings and landmarks. These are often political or satirical in nature. One piece, featuring a famous scene from Pulp Fiction (but with added bananas) was removed by an anti-graffiti cleanup.
If street art is your thing, visiting Banky’s website could be just the thing for you. Oh and Banksy, we’re waiting for that giant bingo painting you promised! You can learn more (well a little more at least) about the elusive Banksy on his website.
Tattoo-a-rama – State of the Art Tattoo Convention
Youch, that’s got to hurt! If you’re a lover of body art and all things tattoo related, the Tattoo Convention, which takes place in Derby, should be right up your street. Perhaps you’ve got a huge tattoo covering most of your body, or a smaller on that has sentimental value. However much you are into tattoos, you’ll find artists ready to ink you up, and the oh-so shy ready to bare flesh and show off their pride and joys!
It’s a whole day out if you are into the scene, with rock bands, food and other entertainment. Put your worries to bed bingo buddies, the convention is run by professionals and sponsored by a major surgical sterilisation company.
You can find out more on the State of the Art Tattoo Convention by visiting the website. A prize for the first player to spot a bingo-related tattoo!
Julian Beever – Street art in 3D
If you’re the sort of bingo player who has to avoid the cracks on the pavement look away now! Julian Beever has been making a bit of a name for himself around the world with his amazing ‘anamorphic illusions’.
"Anamorphic Illusion, what the bingo dabber is that...", I hear you cry. Well it’s a type of picture that looks flat and ordinary when viewed from one angle, but view it in just the right place and it comes alive, literally. We’ve not had the pleasure of seeing his art in the flesh, but it does look absolutely fantastic!
View some of Julian’s amazing 3D street art on his website.
Smarty Pants – Smarties art reproduction
At last bingo buddies, an art exhibition we can really get our teeth into! To celebrate the return of the much-missed blue Smartie, an art exhibition has sprung up which recreates famous paintings and scenes using the bite-sized chocolate shells.
You’d be well advised not to munch through these masterpieces though! We really liked the Marilyn Monroe (as painted by Andy Warhol) tribute, and you can see more Smartie art for yourself.
The edible exhibition is on display at the V&A Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, East London.
Well guys, it’s been a weird and wonderful journey – and I bet you never thought Smarties could be classed as art! That’s enough culture for one day, so after you’ve finished planning your bingo tattoo, why not get back to playing our great selection of bingo and slots games for your chance to win a massive cash prize.
