How to sledge like a Pro!
1) First of all – watch the skies. It’s definitely been getting colder recently, so we must surely be due some snow, right?
2) Hope and pray that said snow falls on a Saturday or Sunday, that way you can take the kids/hubby along too.
3) Dress for the occasion. You’ll need gloves, a scarf, wellies, a hat, and a waterproof coat. Oh, and make sure to pack an extra pair of socks!
4) Locate the sledge! Easier said than done. Search high and low in your garage/shed/loft and check the condition. If you discover any large cracks or splits it might be as well to invest in a new mean machine so you don’t hurt yourself.
5) Prepare a large pot of soup/tea/coffee – this will definitely come in handy after your session.
6) Get to bed early, and pray for a snow storm during the night.
7) Wake up to find that your prayers have been answered!
8) Go forth and sledge.

Suffolk
If you’re in the Ipswich area, check out the ‘slopes’ and Chirstchurch Park. If there’s even a whiff of snow the place will be packed with kids young and old, which adds to the feeling of excitement and adventure. Be sure to get there early to take advantage of the fresh powder!
Yorkshire
A couple of hotspots can be found in Yorkshire, both offering fine, off-the-beaten-track sledging. First up is the Knavesmire in York. You’ll find it next to what used to be the Chase Hotel on Tadcaster Road. Secondly, and a must for sledgers eager to get away from the crowded parks is a little-known spot by the side of Sutton Bank. There’s a perfect slope just near the gliding club!
Nottinghamshire
Top of our Nottinghamshire sledging hotspots is a place the locals call Cardboard Hill (because the kids all used to fly down on bits of cardboard!). Make your way to Toton and locate the biggest hill – That’s Cardboard Hill. If you’re in and around Mansfield you may also want to check out Berry Hill Park – a great place to take the whole family.
Cumbria
When it snows in Cumbria, it really snows. It’s a sledgers paradise, so take your pick from any number of fields and parks. A personal Littlewoods Bingo recommendation goes to the old Church Fields in Millom. Definitely one for the speed freaks, you’ll find some gentler slopes nearby too. Now, where are the brakes on this thing!
Worcestershire
Fort Royal Park in Worcester is the pick of the bunch here. Apart from anything else, the park looks even more beautiful with a snowy covering. You’ll find plenty of different gradients, so if you’re not too bold, there’s always a gentler slope to take the little ones down.
