We’ve all had the symptoms of snow overload in the past few weeks, and with the temperamental weather conditions it’s not always easy to get your family out of the house. But if you do make it out and you don’t fancy walking (or rather ice-skating) around outside in the cold, then why not opt for one of the many indoor activities around the UK?
Aquariums
When the weather is bad, the creatures under the sea don’t notice. So why not head for an aquarium to pass by a few hours. The kids will love it and they often have special interactive experiences for a hands-on day out. The London Sea Life Centre has an underwater walkway , The National Marine Aquarium has a total of 50 live exhibits including 3 massive tanks and The Deep in Hull has over 30 aquatic exhibits, 40 sharks and 3,500 fish.
Spas and Swimming Pools
If you fancy a bit of indulgence after the stress of Christmas then why not try out Britain's only natural thermal spa at Thermal Bath Spa with its rooftop pool? If you’ve got the kids in tow then there are loads of water parks with flumes and slides around the country- Alton Towers has its own water park, Splashdown Water Park in Poole has hair-raising water slides and Hanley, Staffordshire, has Waterworld, which is claimed to be the biggest indoor water park in the UK
Indoor Entertainment Centres
If you’re unsure what you fancy doing then you can always head over to one of the UK’s indoor entertainment centres which offer a variety of fun activities. There are Xscape Centres in Milton Keynes and Castleford with a bowling alley, climbing wall, cinema, ski slope and parachute simulator. The Namco Station in London's City Hall is also a good choice and has dodgems, arcades, bowling and pool tables.
Botanical Gardens
If you fancy a stroll with a difference then relax among tropical plants in elegant Victorian glasshouses at places like Kew Gardens in London and the Edinburgh Botanical Gardens. There’s also the amazing Eden Project in Cornwall where you can see whole environments growing undercover. Sheffield is also home to the Sheffield Winter Gardens where you can see an array of fascinating flora in a modern undercover setting.
Castles and Stately Homes
Stay inside and stay dry in some of the UK’s oldest houses and castles. For a riveting historical trip you can visit the Tower of London which has a long and bloody history. There’s also some of the grandest castles to visit like the imposing Edinburgh Castle or the extravagent Cardiff Castle with its sumptuous interiors. If you fancy a trip to a Stately home then try favourite Chatsworth House, made famous by Pride and Prejudice or perhaps Blenheim Palace, which is the birthplace of Sir. Winston Churchill.
